The Lecha-Lecha trek is likened to a fire starter. It’s a burst of inspiration! But in order to keep it going, one must tend to the flame. This is where you come in! As a Community Trail Guide, you will pick up where our trek left off, taking the Lech-Lecha spirit back home.

What is It?
Lech-Lecha Communities offer opportunities for past Lech-Lecha participants to build local community connections with like-minded outdoorsy Jews through:
1. Monthly activities based on common interests, ranging from a day hike, beach volleyball, to canoeing on the river, or simply coming over for a meditation, song circle, or a Shabbat walk in the park.
2. A virtual communal space (WhatsApp group) in which community members openly share and invite, fostering ongoing grassroots connections.

Your Role
You blaze the trail and lead the way as the community Trail Guide. Your responsibilities are fourfold: 1. Get to know your community members. 2. Plan your gatherings. We’ll check in and be there to support you in planning and instilling Jewish content. 3. Facilitate 6 opportunities for connection and growth per year (every other month) 4. Engage your community over WhatsApp, cultivating a space for organic grass roots sharing. |
The Process
We’ll work with you to create a WhatsApp community of past Lech-Lecha participants in your area. You’ll begin by building relationships with your community members, reaching out individually and getting to know your new friends. Once the group gets going, we’ll encourage past trekkers to invite their outdoorsy friends to join the group, too!
The WhatsApp group will be primarily used for:
Sharing: “Check out this park I found!”
Asking questions: “Anybody know a good lake for swimming in the area?”
Invitations: “Who wants to join me at the rock climbing gym tomorrow?”
You’ll encourage these three types of sharing by doing so yourself, sharing discoveries, asking questions, and inviting friends to join your adventures.
... And you are off! INTO THE WOODS! Leading the way! KEEPING THE FIRE GOING!
The Team:
You are not alone along this trail. There will be other trail guides from various locations facilitating monthly gatherings, too. You will have the opportunity to connect with them for special learning and travel opportunities, sharing experiences and learning from one another.
The Compensation
We are looking for passionate people excited to build community with our support. You will receive a stipend of $1,200 per year to honor your time and help cover your expenses (supplies for monthly activities, your transportation costs, etc.). We will also facilitate trail guide leadership development opportunities and invite you to join any Lech-Lecha Trek at our Special Community Trail Guides pricing!

The opportunity to celebrate Shabbat in the woods and focus on the present moment helped me connect to Judaism spiritually in a way that I hadn't done in a long time.
