Empowerment
Lech-Lecha’s model is rooted in immersive adventures through the outdoors and along the manifold paths of Jewish spirituality. Grounded in challenge, opportunity, and accomplishment, our wilderness explorations encourage participants to bring their full selves – their voices, their passions, their questions, their creativity – and contribute meaningfully to the group. The Lech-Lecha experience strengthens our campers and trekkers by enhancing their capacity to pursue transformative paths of purposeful growth and powerful impact.

Encounter
Empowered and engaged, we are ready to explore. Direct and open wilderness encounter, in which we delve deeply into creation, self, community, tradition, possibility, and purpose, is a central characteristic of the immersive Lech-Lecha experience. As we step away from everyday routines and distractions, we can focus, sense, and connect with greater clarity. Natural wonders inspire us to ponder meaning and purpose. The mysteries of creation beckon us to investigation and contemplation. All of Lech-Lecha's programs catalyze and facilitate this heightened awareness and engagement.

Community
Our pursuit of growth and discovery takes shape in the context of courageous, mutually supportive and accountable community. Lech-Lecha's emphasis on small-group communal encounters enables our programs to foster authentic, meaningful, positive, and enduring relationships that span backgrounds and identities and are crystallized by shared experience on the trail. While building new relationships and strengthening existing ones, Lech-Lecha’s generous and vibrant communities enable trekkers to open their hearts to the trail.

Torah
As we make our way along the trail we organically encounter opportunities for deep, expansive, and joyful Jewish learning and practice. We recall Avraham and Sarah venturing forth toward the Land of Israel and we reflect on our forty years in the wilderness – by grounding ourselves in the foundations of our heritage, we are enabled to reach ever-greater heights. Baking challah in an oven that we’ve built out of gathered stones, praying in a meadow under the rising sun, and making an eiruv before celebrating Shabbat in the forest all animate uniquely powerful encounters with Jewish identity and Jewish living.

Journey
Personally empowered, communally supported, fueled by Torah, and embodying the spirit of exploration and discovery, our journey comes alive. Lech-Lecha takes the concept of a “Jewish journey” literally: we aim to catalyze a journey-oriented mindset that synthesizes physical and spiritual exploration and growth. Our expeditions emphasize intrepid, adventurous navigation that develops perseverance, resourcefulness, and resilience. We equip individuals and communities to embark on and sustain meaningful and life-affirming journeys that expand our selves and extend the paths of our ancestors into the future.

Wholeness
Joy and celebration are essential to a feeling of wholeness, which is central to Lech-Lecha’s vision for our generation. Proceeding from the fundamental understanding that there are shivim panim laTorah (seventy faces to the Torah) and that we are all created b’tzelem Elokim (in the image of G-d), Lech-Lecha seeks to harmonize the many facets of our personal and communal complexity and diversity. The ecological wisdom and the give-and-take approach inherent in Jewish tradition, combined with the broader horizons and changes in perspective that are part of the wilderness experience, provide us with a powerful framework for embracing complexity and belonging. The drive for synthesis powers our ongoing journeys and fosters a state of vital, symbiotic wholeness.
